      From the 14th to 16th centuries the parish church of Willesden, St Mary's, became a place of pilgrimage due to the presence of two statues and a well - all, apparently, with miraculous powers. The old parish church of St. Mary's had long ceased to be the focus of the area and no civic centre grew up to take its place.
